Impact membership rules

To maintain a welcoming and supportive environment, it’s essential to understand the terms of your membership and how to preserve the community vibe.

These guidelines define our commitments to you and your responsibilities as a member. By adhering to these rules, we can ensure that The Impact Membership remains a safe, collaborative, and inspiring space. Breaching these rules may result in suspension, termination of your membership, or other restrictions. Membership termination decisions are made at the discretion of The Impact Membership team.

Membership Terms

Membership Fees

Membership fees are paid annually or quarterly and are non-exchangeable, non-refundable, and non-transferable. As a member, it’s your responsibility to manage your subscription via Stripe or by contacting us for renewals. If your membership isn’t renewed, you’ll lose access to member benefits within 7 days of non-payment.

If Your Professional Circumstances Change

If your role changes during your membership—for example, if you move to a vendor-related position, transition into consulting, or no longer work full-time as a user researcher—you’re required to inform us so we can reassess your membership eligibility. These conversations will always be handled compassionately, prioritizing the collective needs of the community.

Promoting Services

The Impact Membership is a space for collaboration and learning—not self-promotion. Unless expressly allowed by the team (e.g., through sponsorship agreements or designated channels), members are not permitted to advertise their services at events or within community spaces.

Intellectual Property

By joining The Impact Membership, you agree not to produce content, establish connections, or engage in discussions that harm, defame, or misrepresent the community or its members in any way. We’re always open to constructive feedback about the membership—please reach out if you have ideas for improvement!

All logos, materials, and resources shared through The Impact Membership are our intellectual property and may not be used, reproduced, or distributed without explicit permission. However, if you’d like to feature The Impact Membership on your LinkedIn or résumé, we’d love that! Just reach out for a high-quality logo file.

Keeping Our Community Safe and Respectful

To foster an environment of openness and trust, The Impact Membership operates under the Chatham House Rule. You’re free to use information shared within the community, but you may not disclose the identity or affiliation of the person who shared it.

The Chatham House Rule: Participants can use the information received, but the identity or affiliation of the speaker(s) or any other participant must not be revealed.

Hate Speech, Bullying, and Abuse

We have a zero-tolerance policy for any form of hate speech, bullying, or abusive behavior. This includes, but is not limited to:

  • Threats of violence or harassment

  • Hateful, defamatory, or derogatory language

  • Discrimination or attacks based on race, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, religion, disability, or other personal characteristics

Any member reported for or found engaging in such behavior may have their membership terminated immediately.

Illegal or Inciting Content or Behavior

The Impact Membership is a space for sharing knowledge and best practices about user research. Members must not use the community or its events to promote political or religious agendas, support hate groups, or engage in any illegal activity. Violations of this rule will result in immediate action.

Inclusivity

While The Impact Membership is exclusive to user researchers who meet our eligibility criteria, we strive to be inclusive in every other way. Eligible members are welcome regardless of cultural background, age, race, gender, sexual orientation, disability, or beliefs. We aim to create a supportive environment where diverse perspectives and experiences enrich our community.

Reporting Concerns

If you see or hear anything that violates these rules or makes you feel uncomfortable, please let us know. Your report will be handled confidentially, and we’ll take appropriate action to maintain the safety and integrity of the community.
